First meeting of the Paleoceano Project

On 13-14 August 2015, the first meeting of the Paleoceano Project took place at the Institute of Astronomy, Geophysics and Atmospheric Sciences of the University of São Paulo. The project aims at understanding the decadal-to-millennial-scale variability of the Brazil Current over the past 130,000 yr and its impact on the climate of South America. Participants from all levels (i.e., from undergrad students to senior researchers) were able to show their ongoing work in approximately 15 talks and 10 posters. Despite the recent kick-start of the project (i.e., August 2014) the progress attained is impressive. The project is funded by the Brazilian Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel and is a cooperation between researchers from the Fluminense Federal University, the Rio de Janeiro State University and the University of São Paulo (with the participation of members of the P2L), as well as international partners.
